Pti, Aizawl. The government of Mizoram could soon collect biometric data from more than 33 thousand refugees from Myanmar. The Department of Home Affairs official said on Sunday that Amit Shah, Minister of the Union Minister, last week informed Chief Minister of Lalduhoma in New -Delhi that the change in the portal was completed to increase biometric data of refugees in Mizoram. The official said the portal was recently demonstrated online. After the approval of the Interior Ministry, we will begin biometric entry. According to government records, there are 33.023 displaced people of Myanmar in Mizoram, including 12.361 children. Most of the displaced people of Myanmar of the Chin community have been sheltering in Mizoram since February 2021. Instructions were given to increase biometric data of illegal migrants. In April 2023, the Ministry of Home Affairs ordered Mizoram and Manipur to increase biometric data of illegal migrants in their states. The center ordered the states to complete the process at the end of September 2023. The deadline was extended later. The Mizoram government delayed the process due to the inappropriate format and requested the Interior Ministry to improve it, as the earlier format claimed different compulsory certificates, which could not offer for the refugees. The Minister of Home Affairs supported the scheme of Mizo Territorial Army, the Minister of Home Affairs, Amit Shah, supported the proposal of the Mizoram government spoken about the establishment of the Mizo -Territorial Army battalion.
