Preparations to temporarily close a runway at Delhi airport will be the minimum impact on flights

New -Delhi, May 23 (IANS). There is a preparation to temporarily close a runway from Indira Gandhi International Airport in June. Union Minister of Civil Aviation, KK Rammohan Naidu said on Friday that there is a less impact on the schedule flight, there is a discussion with the authorities. The runway 28/10 will be closed from mid to mid -September, so that the instrument landing system (IL’s) can be upgraded to Cat III B standards, a significant upgrade to one of the airport primary runways. This technique enables the aircraft to land safely, even in low visibility, which is especially common during the dense winter manure of Delhi. Following the Curtain Raser Program for the Aviation Conference ‘Wings India 2026’ held in Hyderabad in January, Union Minister Naidu said that the ministry was discussing stakeholders, including airlines how to ensure the minimum impact on the flights scheduled due to the closing of the runway. The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) has four runs, RW 09/27, RW 11R/29L, RW 11L/29R and RW 28/10 – and two industry terminal – T1 and T3. The T2 terminal is currently closed for maintenance functions. The initial attempt to close the runway in April was canceled just four weeks after the flight programs were disorganized. The airport could not accommodate its normal daily traffic of about 1400 flights with its three runways. According to reports, approximately 50 daily flights will be canceled due to the closing of the runway, while the other 50 will be transferred to outdoor picking hours. Airport officials hope that the beginning of work during the period in June September will smooth the operations. The Civil Aviation Ministry has already planned to release the revised flight program to help the passengers protect the last disruption during the runway at Delhi airport. -Ians Sch/DSC
