Director of IIT Kanpur said: Indian institutions quickly improve the global rankings
Kanpur, June 20 (IANS). Professor Manindra Aggarwal, director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, said in a conversation with the news agency that Indian educational institutions are progressing quickly on the world ranking. He credited the better ranking of IIT Kanpur in the QS World University 2026 to the contribution of teachers and researchers from the Institute. Pro. Aggarwal said: “Our ranking has improved a lot. Our goal is to improve it further.” He said in 2014, where only 11 Indian institutions were involved in the world rankings, this number has now increased to 54. The reason for this progress is the efforts made for awareness and better performance in all institutions. Pro. Aggarwal said Iit Delhi came to the Top 125, while Iit Bombay is also on the top ranking. He expressed the confidence that Indian institutions could join the top 100 with a little more effort. Prof. However, Aggarwal has acknowledged that India is not yet fully prepared to become a global higher education center. He said: “Indian students are mainly enrolled in our top institutions. It is not that foreign students do not want to come. But our policy limits admission to international students.” He also mentions the efforts made under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to improve international faculty, research publication and global image. Prof. on the demand for impact on funding and global partnership. Aggarwal said funding agencies in India are more important for the National Institutional Framework (NIRF) rather than international rankings such as QS. Therefore, QS rankings have a limited effect on funding. Nevertheless, the world ranking helps to increase the reputation of institutions. Pro. Aggarwal emphasized that Indian institutions focus on strengthening their research quality and infrastructure, which is expected to achieve better and better performance in the future. -Ians shk/gkt share this story tags
