Munde, who is a two-year-old MLA of the Parli-meeting constituency in Beed and is considered a close help from Pawar, has maintained a low profile since his resignation. He skipped all Pawar’s meetings on Wednesday, but later made it clear that it was because he was in Mumbai for medical treatment. Pawar held various meetings with the District Administration and NCP leaders during his one-one feet of Beed. He addresses some workers during a meeting and said: “We will have to stop everything that brings a bad name to beer. Look at the background of the people before recruiting them in the party. I do not want those involved in unlawful activities.” The NCP chief added that its functioning style differs from that of Beed officials, while expressing unhappiness over a series of high-profile incidents that exposed the in-depth issues of crime, political influence and social unrest in the district. He assured that action would be taken against all criminal gangs working in the district. “All the gangs, like the Ash Mafia and Sand Mafia, will be taken to task,” he said. Beed has been at the boiling point since the horrific murder of Santosh Deshmukh, the Sarpanch of Massjog Village, on December 9. Deshmukh was allegedly kidnapped, tortured and killed, allegedly a blackmail racket directed in his town. The murder case received widespread attention after videos emerged that Deshmukh had been tortured and brutally beaten with pipes and bars. Munde has skipped all NCP meetings since he was forced to resign last month after the details of the brutality in the Deshmukh murder case became public, which led to public outrage. NCP leaders have acknowledged that the former minister is not satisfied to dismiss from a ministerial position. “Who wouldn’t feel bad after being removed as a minister? Munde has always maintained that he was not directly linked to the murder and should not be removed. As far as Ajitdada’s beeed tour is concerned, it is also a fact that Mund is not good and can be a sincere reason to skip the meeting, ‘said a senior NCP function. Another leader added that Munde was suffering from Bell’s paralysis, and that his treatment was still underway. After his absence of Pawar’s meetings in beed tip brows, Mund placed on X that he was forced to skip them because of his ill health. “… since my health is still not in good condition, I had to come to Mumbai for treatment … I informed the party leadership in advance and requested that there be no confusion in this regard,” he wrote. Along with Karad, NCP office carrier and Kej Taluka head, Vishnu Chate, was also arrested in connection with the murder case and discussed under departments of the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act, 1999 (McOCA).
