Cricket-Suryavanshi (14) becomes the latest men T20 Centurion

(Add quotes, details) April 28 (Reuters)-Fourteen-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the latest Centurion in Men’s Twenty20 cricket on Monday when he led Rajasthan Royals to an eight-point victory over Gujarat Titans in an Indian Premier League match in Jaipur. Suryavanshi exerted serious punishment on Gujarat’s bowling attack and beat 11 sixes and seven fours in his 101 out of 38 balls, while the hosts chased a target of 209 runs in 15.5 overs. The left hand reached its 100 in 35 balls to register the second fastest century in IPL history, while he was combined with Yashasvi Jaiswal in an opening partnership of 166 runs. “It’s a very good feeling. It’s my first hundred in the IPL and that’s my third turn. The result showed here before the tournament,” Suryavanshi said. “I just see the ball and play. It was a dream to get 100 in the IPL and today it was realized. There is no fear. I don’t think much, I’m just focusing on playing. ‘ Suryavanshi’s century was also the fastest by an Indian in the IPL, which improved Yusuf Pathan’s 37-ball attempt for Rajasthan against the Mumbai Indians in 2010. “Congratulations to the young Vaibhav Suryavanshi for breaking my record of the fastest IPL one hundred by an Indian,” Pathan wrote on social media. “Even more special to see that this is happening while playing for Rajasthan Royals, just like me.” Suryavanshi got headlines when he became the youngest player to earn a contract in the profitable IPL at the age of 13, before making his debut this month and announcing himself in style with a six of the first ball he faced. He played in the domestic Ranji trophy-red-ball competition last year and represented India’s Under-19 team against Australia and scored a century of 58 balls. Suryavanshi also made a three hundred in a local tournament in his home state Bihar. Rajasthan is eighth in the IPL standings, with the win over Gujarat with a loss of five games for the 2008 champions.
