PKH Task Force finds illegal palm oil plantation in Tesso Nilo Riau National Park
Jakarta – The Task Force for the Forestry Control (Task Force PKH) reviewed the Tesso Nilo National Park (TNTN) in Pelalawan, Riau. In the review, the task force found an illegal oil palm plantation in the National Park area. Attorney General Harli Siregar’s office explained that TNTN actually has an area of about 81,739 hectares. However, the area is still experiencing shrinkage. “In a period of ten or 11 years, but there is a shift, there is a contraction of the functions of the area that must be in the context of the preservation of wildlife and also the biological sources there,” Harli told reporters on Tuesday (6/10/2025) at the office of the Attorney General. In fact, the National Park should not be planted with palm oil. “First, now there were many planting of oil palms illegal. Why? Because the National Park is a forest area that needs to be protected,” he explained. On the other hand, Harli said there were also migrant people who started opening land in TNTN and made it settlements. This, he continued, had an impact on animal ecosystems in the National Park area. “It is felt that there are threats of wild animals whose habitat is actually there, but it is disturbed. So there is a conflict between humans and animals,” Harli explained. That’s why Harli said the need for recovery. The goal is to restore the function of a full national park. “That’s why this moment is used by the PKH Task Force Team to mention that there is a state law that needs to be maintained. There is legal sovereignty that needs to be maintained. “So we hope that the Ministry of Forestry will certainly have a policy in the future on how to return it so that? So that the ecosystem in the Tesso Nilo National Park can be restored. Because it is a legacy of life,” he concluded.
