(AP) Summary The struggle for AI OPPERPERSE is heated in India, with technical giants such as Google and Meta expanding their language support. With 1.7 billion speakers in Indian languages, the potential for AI growth is great. Openai CEO Sam Altman unveiled GPT-5 on Thursday with indigenous support for 12 Indian languages. Last year, Google expanded its AI model Gemini’s nine Indian languages. With the boot of artificial intelligence, anthropic and confusion is also focused on Indian languages, the regional language internet rapidly comes up as a large AI battlefield. Mint explains why. Why are languages important for AI firms? Fundamental AI models are trained on massive data from data and deliver reactions in ordinary text. To do this, trust AI firms on publicly available information to train their models, and most information on the Internet is in English. As a result, the world’s top AI models are naturally based on data available in English. This leads to different prejudices in the way AI models understand user inquiries, making greater language access to a fundamental necessity for AI businesses. Why are Indian languages important for AI firms? Hindi, according to the ethnologist of Global Language Repository, is the world’s third most spoken language to English and Mandarin. Cumulatively, 10 Indian languages are spoken by 1.7 billion people, or 21% of the world population – at the front of English (with 1.5 billion speakers) and various versions of Chinese (1.4 billion). This makes India the world’s largest region for technical companies to use. Except for the numbers, experts underline that each language has its own nuance, regional dialects, prejudice and complications. Indian languages, due to their scale, are important resources for AI models that meet the world. Are all global firms targeting India? Yes. Last week, Sam Altman said Openai’s latest model, GPT-5, supports 12 Indian languages. Last year, Google announced indigenous support for nine Indian languages. Meta also said last year that his Llama family of AI models will support eight Indian languages. Anthropic’s Claude supports Hindi and Bangla. Confusedness, another prominent Silicon Valley -Start, supports input and outputs in Hindi. In India, Sarvam unveiled a text-to-speech-ai model that was trained in 11 Indian languages in May. In the same month, Gnani, spoken voting, became one of the four companies selected for the government’s support under the India AI mission. This has announced an intention to build a 14 billion parameter-voice-ai model. Bharatgpt-maker Corover and Seket also build AI models that are trained on local languages. How important is India regarding business potential? It’s hard to judge. India is one of the world’s largest user base for any AI firm. However, diverse consumer behavior makes it difficult to earn this market. As a result, India’s contribution to the net income of global technical firms ranged only between 1% and 4%. However, AI first businesses believe that they can contribute incrementally to the way world businesses have generated revenue from India, as most AI instruments and platforms need enterprise subscriptions to utilize AI. With a large base of users, most technical firms expect India to become a major monetization afterap. Can Ai see the replication of India’s DPI? India, through government support, wants to be eager to build foundation models trained on Indian languages. Startups and veterans in the industry mention that an AI model trained on most Indian languages can be used in the long run as a template for other non-English AI models around the world. In the long run, it could be similar to India’s attempt to present digital public infrastructure (DPI) to the world – which made it in digital payments via the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). While other countries are also building their own sovereign AI models, India believes it can gain soft power by offering AI models to the global south.
