When the allegations became public, Brand denied any offense, demanding that his relationships in the past were “always consensual”. Jaswant Narwal of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said prosecutors checked the evidence “carefully” before authorizing the charges. “We have concluded that Russell Brand should be charged with offenses, including rape, sexual assault and indecent assault,” Narwal said. She added that criminal proceedings are now active and emphasize the trademark’s right to a fair trial. Brand is expected to appear before a court in London on May 2. He has since moved to the United States.
