I usually try not to be too much of a hater on posts on this subreddit but I gotta admit this just makes me sad. I’m a journalist; I’ve reported from Ukraine, and I cannot do justice to the tragedy of war. It seems like common sense, but it’s so much deeper than that. The destruction I saw, the complete devastation of towns and communities and families. Countless young men dead or maimed and left permanently disabled. The mental scars already so evident, the little kids so traumatised they just stared blankly or kept diving under tables to hide.

All these people are just a fraction of those who will bear permanent physical and mental scars from this. Vast areas of Ukraine are devastated, bombed flat, mined. I saw mass graves, heard horrific stories. I’m glad these people have support, but it’s not enough. It never will be. The whole thing is just beyond comprehension.
