Bhakra Canal Water Dispute: Haryana CM Saini wrote a letter to Bhagwant Mann, expressed serious concern about water crisis

Chandigarh, April 29 (IANS). The controversy over the water of the Bhakra channel between Haryana and Punjab becomes deeper. Haryana’s chief minister Naib Singh Sainin, wrote a letter to Punjab’s chief minister Bhagwant Mann, demanding the implementation of the decision of the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) decision on April 23. Sainin said the water from Haryana is not on time, and that if water is not given on time, the drinking water crisis in Haryana can be even more serious. Chief Minister Saini said in his letter that he called Bhagwant Mann on April 26 and informed him of the situation and told him that the implementation of the decision made by the BBMB’s technical committee to release water from Haryana, Punjab, Delhi and Rajasthan on April 23, postponing the Punjab officials. On this, Chief Minister Mann gave him a clear assurance that he would immediately give instructions to his officers and execute the decision the next day. However, Sainin claimed that Punjab was not performed until April 27 until 14:00 on April 27, and even the phone calls of Haryana officials did not respond. He said he was forced to write a formal letter to Chief Minister Manna and informed them of these facts. In his letter, Saini wrote that the BBMB’s Technical Committee has decided to release 8500 Cuseecs water on Haryana Contact Points (HCP), which is the responsibility of Punjab to implement. He also mentioned in the letter that the drainage of water on IICP (Haryana Water Point) in the months of May and June was more than 9500 Cuseecs, causing the scarcity of summer water. He said that if this withdrawal is not done on time, BBMB will have to release a large amount of water during the monsoon, so that this water can flow through the coastal rivers of the Indus system, which is not in the interests of India, in light of the current state of Indus water treaty. Chief Minister Sainin also described the public statement that Bhagwant Mann made on the issue as “astounding” and claimed that, instead of responding to the letter for 48 hours, he was trying to give political color to this serious matter by releasing a video. He said that Mana Saheb tried to confuse people by ignoring the facts, while the issue of water is not political but human and sensitive topic. The Chief Minister of Haryana requested that the Punjab government immediately send the necessary claims to the BBMB and according to the decision of the Technical Committee, the law should be provided to Haryana immediately, so that the water crisis in the state can be stopped in time. -Ians PSM/CBT Share this story Tags
