Apple TV+ Subscribers Looking for Something to Fill The Severance-shaped hole in their lives might want to consider plugging into Murderbota new sci-fi series starring and executive produced by Alexander Skarsgård, premiering globally this may. The latest trailer offers prospective audiences their best look yet at the comedic thriller that follows a rogue security unit as it searches for the meaning of life but finds that would much rather be watching TV, having tuned in for 7532 hours of Content – and Counting – The Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon, A fictional show within the show that stars John Cho, Jack McBrayer, Clark Gregg, and Dewanda Wise.
When Skarsgård’s titular murderbot is not channel surfing and binge-watching soap operas, it is involved in dangerous missions that see it live up to its name and programming. One clip in the trailer (shared below) shows the killing machine going up against a colossal space creature that appears to have an appetite for robots and scientists. The secunit protects the show’s ensemble cast from the Jaws of the Toothy Titan, with Noma Dumezweni, David Dastmalchian, Sabrina Wu, Akshay Khanna, Tattiawna Jones, and Tamara Podemski in its debt.

Before the trailer made its way online, Apple TV+ had shared some first-Look images of Skarsgård in his latest small-screen offering, following on from his roles in What we do in the shadows, Succession, and The stand. In the Photographs, he was picture wearing a futuristic suit and a mask to maintain an emotionless facade. However, the new footage shows how the character can easily remove its face covering at any time to “make eye contact” and connect with its vulnerable clients despite being horrified by their human emotions.

Based on Martha Wells’ Bestelling Book Series The murderbot diaries, Murderbot was created by Chris Weitz (Afraid) and his Brother Paul Weitz (Little Fockers) Under their depth of field banner. It was produced for Apple TV+ by paramount television studios, with Andrew Miano on board as an executive producer for depth of field, while David S. Goyer Executive Produces Alongside Keith Levine for Phantom Four. Wells also served as a consulting producer on the TV series adaptation of her novels, which are told from the perspective of the central cyborg.
The ten episode first season of Murderbot Will Premiere Globally on Apple TV+, with the first two episodes debuting on May 16, 2025. New episodes will follow every Friday through July 11, when the season final will air. Wells’ The murderbot diaries Saga Currently Comprises Seven Books, with the most recent entry, System Collapsereleased on Nov. 14, 2023, so it will be interesting to see where the series winds up and whether it leaves the door open for any future expansion. After all, there is plenty of source material to draw on.
