Barhi wastewater treatment plant failed again in the test, HSIIDC fined Rs 2.5 crore

Due to the regular omissions of the environmental environment, the Common Liquid Treatment Plant (CETP) in the Barhi industrial area once again did not meet the standards for pollution control. Recently, laboratory tests confirmed that all important parameters of treated waste were higher than permissible borders, causing serious concerns about the entry into uncontrolled industrial pollution in the Yamuna River system. The Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) reported that the operating treatment plants in the Barhi area throw the waste directly into stormy water drainage without ignoring the treatment plants. These drains eventually merge into the output number 6, which falls into the yamuna. The Barhi Industrial Center, which has more than 900 units, is equipped with two CETPs – one with a capacity of 16 MLD (million liters per day) and the other with 10 MLD. However, over the past three years, both functions have constantly failed environmental tests. According to sources, HSPCB teams collect samples every month at CETP and every time samples do not follow the compulsory pollution norms. In response to these repeated offenses, HSPCB imposed an environmental remuneration of more than Rs 2.5 crore on Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC). The board also began lawsuits against HSIIDC officials and contractors responsible for CETP’s maintenance. The case increased after the complaint was filed by the environmentally conscious Varun Gulati, after which HSPCB and Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) conducted a joint inspection. Conclusions were alarming: Waste shows dangerously high levels of pollutants, including heavy metals, bids (biochemical oxygen demand), COD (chemical oxygen demand) and TDS (total solids) in waste. These indicators indicate that untreated waste is illegally released by stormy water drains – a task that is a direct violation of environmental laws. Share this story -tags
