Bangladesh: Arrest order issued against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and daughter Zima Vajed
Dhaka, April 10 (IANS). A Bangladesh court has issued a new arrest order against 18 people, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her daughter Saima Vajed Putul. This action was taken due to the allegations of corruption in the plot award in the Purvancal New Town project. Zakir Hussain, senior special judge of Dhaka City, ordered on Thursday. After noting the charge sheet of Anti Corruption Commission (ACC), he issued this warrant and instructed them to report the progress of arrest by May 5. In addition, in another case, a charge sheet was also filed against a total of 23 people, including Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana and other four family members for corruption in the plot. It is noteworthy that a total of six cases have so far been registered against Sheikh Hasina, in which everyone is related to the disturbances in the Purvancal project. Last month, a tribunal also issued an arrest order against five people, including Sheikh Hasina and former police chief Benazir Ahmed, in connection with the alleged slaughter at Shapla Chhatar in 2013. Also in January, a special court gave an arrest order against Sheikh Hasina and 11 others in cases of compelling disappearance. Interestingly, the tribunals who took this action were himself formed by the government of Sheikh Hasina to investigate the war crimes in 1971. Political experts believe that all these actions are being taken in the spirit of political revenge of the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus. After the expulsion of Hasina from the power in August 2024, several cases were registered against her and her supporters. Sheikh Hasina, who takes shelter in India while addressing her supporters in February, said the Yunus government made the country a base of terrorism and anarchy. She promised that she would return to the country and give justice to all the victims. Sheikh Hasina said: “Younus himself acknowledged that he did not have the experience of running the government. He ended the investigative committees and opened the terrorists, but we would put these killers in the law of law.” He said, “I will return, and there will be justice on the land of Bangladesh.” -Ians DSC/EKD shares this story -tags
