Bangladesh: Actress Nusrat Faria was arrested, amid the policy uncertainty of the interim government, reached jail

Dhaka, May 19 (IANS). Bangladesh’s well -known actress Nusrat Faria was jailed in connection with the attempt to kill a person named Inamul Haq. Local media gave this information on Monday. Faria, who played former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a film, was arrested by police at Dhaka Airport on Sunday when she was to Thailand. He was later arrested in this case relating to the excitement in July 2024. Dhaka’s metropolitan magistrate Nasreen Ankatar ordered him to be jailed on Monday. Lieutenant General (retired) Jahangir Alam Chaudhary, Bangladesh’s Home Affairs Advisor, confirmed that a hearing against the actress is ongoing and the investigation in the case is underway. He assured that the government was committed to ensuring justice. Chaudhary said: “Such measures will be taken that only those who violate the law must be punished. It will also be ensured that no innocent is punished under any circumstances.” It is noteworthy that in July 2024, Inamul Haq attended the July movement in the Vatara police station. The day he was shot in the leg and was later admitted to a hospital. After recovering, he filed a case on May 3, 2025. 283 people were accused in this case, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 17 artists. Faria was made an accused as a financial advocate of the Awami League. Faria played the role of Sheikh Hasina in the 2023 Biopic ‘Mujib: The Making of a Nation’, made in 2023. The film was directed by Indian film director Shyam Benegal. Sarwar Farooqui, adviser to the cultural issues, mentioned Faria’s arrest as a “disgraceful incident” for the government. Farooqui hoped in a social media post on Monday that Faria would get justice. He wrote that the government’s task is to punish the right criminals of the July movement.
