Greater Noida officials try to establish peace
A day after the violence against Nigerian students in Greater Noida, the District Magistrate NP Singh held a meeting with members of the inaugural association and representatives of the Nigerian students. Singh addressed the issue of discrimination and prejudice against African citizens and described it as unacceptable. Singh said: “They came here to study, the rumors that spread, they must stop. We must try to understand each other’s culture.” He also described rumors of Cannibal as ridiculous. Singh said: “We hear that RWA does not allow Africans to live, or that we remove it, we request you not to.” Representatives from African students raised the issue that there was a problem of communication gap and perception. A student named Godwil said: “I spent four years of my life in India. But they never tried to understand our culture. I am a Christian, my God knows my truth. How can they say that we eat other people? God will never make it happen.” Another student said: “We are trying to normalize the situation again. Even though we were asked not to do it, my friends and my friends will go to class tomorrow.” Meanwhile, police have registered three Fir’s, including nine people and 300 unknown.
