Elon Musk refuts report on SpaceX's role in building Donald Trump's 'Golden Dome' raket Shield | Today news

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has denied that his company is currently involved in building the proposed Golden Dome Missil Defense Shield for the United States, despite a news release that indicates otherwise. In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Musk wrote: “SpaceX has not yet tried to bid a contract in this regard. Our strong preference would be to stay focused on taking humanity to Mars. The remark follows a Reuters report that SpaceX, along with the software business Palantir and Drone manufacturer Anduril, are one of the forerunners to play a major role in developing the high-tech shield, called “Golden Dome.” According to the news release, the plan is seen as an important part of President Donald Trump’s national security vision. Reuters: 1,000 satellites and space-based interceptions suggested the news release, citing unnamed sources, said the proposed system would start a network of 400 to 1,000 satellites to locate and detect incoming missiles. A separate fleet of 200 attack satellites, possibly armed with lasers or missiles, would intercept and destroy threats in the air. However, the sources also said that SpaceX is not expected to participate in the weapon of the satellites. According to the news store, the group with three companies recently met with senior Trump campaign officials and the Pentagon to represent their concept for the Golden Dome. The system is reportedly modeled on Israel’s iron dome, but on a much larger, space-based scale. The White House and Pentagon informed options. The news publication further reported that more than 180 businesses have expressed interest in contributing to the Golden Dome, including defense stars such as Epirus, Ursa Major and Armada. Trump calls missile threats as “catastrophic” The concept of the Golden Dome Missile Shield was formally instituted by Trump in an executive order of January 27, which described a rocket strike as “the most catastrophic threat facing the United States.” The Golden Dome is aimed at neutralizing both short- and long-distance turmoil threats. The capabilities are expected to go beyond traditional soil-based systems using a network satellite shield for global coverage. First published: 20 Apr 2025, 1:29 am Ist
