Can a ceasefire be applied in Ukraine? Donald Trump's big statement
Moscow, April 18 (IANS). The US president said he was expected to receive Russia’s response to a possible ceasefire in Ukraine over the weekend. Donald Trump’s statement comes a few hours after a telephone conversation between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavarov and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Trump told the media in the White House: “We’re going to hear them soon this week, really soon. I think we’re getting closer, but we’ll tell you soon.” According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Lavarov agreed to continue with the US peers to solve the cause of the Ukrainian crisis. Rubio, who was present in Paris, informed the Russian side about the meeting between him and the US president’s special envoy Steve Witchoff in the recent French capital. Meanwhile, Russian envoy at the United Nations, Vasili Nebenjya, said the ceasefire in Ukraine was ‘unreal’ as Kiev could not stop the attack on the energy structure. He said: “We have tried a limited ceasefire regarding energy structure, which the Ukrainian side did not follow. In these circumstances, it is unrealistic to talk about the ceasefire at this time.” On March 18, President Trump proposed not to attack the energy frame for 30 days before the struggling parties. Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to this and immediately gave a proper order to the Russian army. Later, Ukrainian President Volodimir Jailonsky said Ukraine would also support the proposal. However, Ukraine attacked Russian Energy again in 15 regions from 18 March to 16 April. The attacks were carried out by different artillery, including drones and himars. Russian news agency Tas, Tas, said on Friday that Kremlin spokesman Dimitri Peskov said Kiev does not follow the ban, and that the Russian energy sector is being attacked. -Ians mk/ share this story tags
