New OCI Portal is a big step toward promoting civilian -friendly digital management: PM Modi
New -Delhi, May 19 (IANS). Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that the new OCI portal with better functionality is an important step towards the promotion of civilian-friendly digital rule. Premier Modi shared a post of Union Minister on Social Media Platform X, and wrote: “The new OCI portal with advanced facilities and better functionality is an important step towards the promotion of civilian digital management.” Amit Shah launched the new Portal of Overseas Citizen or India (OCI) with a user interface to facilitate the registration of people of Indian origin. This launch is an important step of government after the modernization of public services for Indian migrants. According to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, the new portal was developed based on feedback received from the existing OCI card holders regarding the rapid technological advances over the past decade and the previous system -related problems. Amit Shah wrote in his post: “Today, the revised OCI portal has been launched with an updated user interface to make the registration of foreign citizens comfortable. New features will include better functionality, increased safety and user-friendly experiences.” The OCI scheme was launched in 2005. It provides for all individuals (PIOs) of Indian origin as OCIS, who were citizens of the country on January 26, 1950 or are eligible to become citizens on January 26, 1950 or their descendants.
