Jammu and Kashmir: The government will give a grace of Rs 10 lakh to the families of those who died in Pakistani shooting

Srinagar, May 10 (IANS). Jammu and Kashmir’s chief minister, Omar Abdullah, announced a grace of Rs 10 Lakh to the families of those who died in the Pakistani shooting in the Union area on Saturday. At least 20 people, including a senior government official, have lost their lives over the past four days in the border shooting. On Wednesday, 12 civilians were killed in Poonch, while two other ordinary people died in Uri and Poonch on Friday. Five other citizens, including a senior government official, died in Pakistani shooting on Saturday morning. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said in a post on X: “I am deeply saddened by the lives of innocent people because of the recent shooting by Pakistan. My government is taking all possible measures to reduce the problems of our people.” The post shared by the office of the Chief Minister said that although no compensation can replace a loved one or correct the shock for the family, the families of all the dead will receive a grace of Rs 10 Lakh as a sign of support and solidarity. The chief minister said, “In this hour of sadness we stand with every family affected.” The tensions between the two countries have increased after India’s actions in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. Following the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, the Indian army had air strikes on Pakistan and Pok terrorists, under operation Sindoor, after which Pakistan attacked military and civil bases in India.
