COSTAL STATES Meat 2025: Fisheries projects that cost Rs 255 crore are offered

Mumbai, April 26 (IANS). The central government will organize ‘Coastal States Meat 2025’ in Mumbai on April 28, in which fisheries projects that cost Rs 255 crore will be introduced to promote the maritime fisheries. An official statement on Saturday said the event chaired by the Department of Fisheries, Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, is organized under the Ministry of Fisheries, Four Farm and Dairy. Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh will set the ground stone for seven coastal states and trade union areas (UT) and lie with a total layout of Rs 255.30 Crore under the Pradhan Mantri Matssya Sampada Yojana (PMMSSE). Ministers will also begin several important initiatives with the aim of strengthening marine fisheries and promoting sustainable practice. This includes the release of the standard industry procedure for the census operations of the fisheries, TED project for Turtle Excluder Device (TED) and Vasel communication and support system. The Fisheries Sector in India plays an important role in supporting rural livelihoods and contributes to the national economy. India claims rich marine resources, with a large coastline and a special economic zone (EEZ) of 2.02 million square kilometers. India has a significant capacity in the maritime fisheries, which is estimated to be 5.31 million tonnes. The coastal states and trade union areas include approximately 3,477 coastal fishing villages, producing 72 percent of the country’s total fish production and forms 76 percent of the total export of seafood in India. Under the Prime Minister Fisheries Kisan Samriddhi CUM plan (PMMKSSY), beneficiaries will also get Aqua Insurance Certification and Kisan Credit Card (KCC). The government set up Aqua Insurance for the first time, which offers dedicated financial security to Aqua farmers. This historical initiative ensures target insurance coverage, digital access and concentrated support for marginalized communities in the fisheries. The ‘Coastal States Measure 2025’ will also hold large technical sessions. In addition, the program will present an exhibition with innovative technology, products and initiatives in fisheries and aquatic agricultural sector. -Ians skt/abm
