Ed Sheeran Gets Thrown Around a Wedding in ‘Azizam’ Video Featuring Persian Stars – ryan
Ed Sheeran’s new music video is a wild ride.
The English singer-songwriter, 34, released the video for his latest single “My dear” on April 18, and the clip sees him escape writer’s block by accidentally attending a wild wedding party full of Persian stars Googoosh, Andy, Omid Djalili, Eyelar, and Servin Alenabi as well as producer Ilya Salmanzadeh.
The video opens with Sheeran writing on a notebook page labeled “Song Ideas” while sitting in a recording studio with Salmanzadeh. Seeming to struggle with inspiration, he throws his head back and walks out of the room — only to slip on a rug and get transported to a grand room full of people mobbing him as “Azizam” starts playing.

Sheeran runs away and finds himself navigating a kitchen as the chef, played by Omid Djalili, works some magic to make him dance. The “Thinking Out Loud” artist tries various dishes from the kitchen before continuing through the building, where Servin Alenabi makes an appearance.
The Grammy winner then stumbles upon the wedding celebration, crowded with dancing individuals including musicians Eyelar and Andy. At the end, Sheeran crowd surfs and gets thrown back into the recording studio, where Googoosh tells him to “write a hit song.”

In an Instagram post shared around the video’s release, Sheeran explained the inspiration. “When we had all finished Azizam in the studio, I asked @ilya_music what we should do for a music video, and he said ‘you gotta do it as a Persian wedding, thats the best way to showcase all of the culture in a video,’” he began.
“I contacted (director) @saman_keshwho I have worked with before, who is also Persian, and asked him to basically make a video which is me going on a crash course Persian wedding,” wrote Sheeran. “He wanted to make it like other non Persians would experience a wedding for the first time, and how full on, but fun it is. I found it was so similar in ways to the Irish weddings I grew up going to, but obviously so different in other ways.”

The “Perfect” musician continued, “Much like the rhythms and instrumentation of the song, I find our two cultures have so much intertwined similarities. But underneath it all is love and pride. I loved the day shooting, I learnt so many new things, got to experience all of it with my dad, and work with amazing people like @andymusic1, @omiddialli, @eyelarx and @Shervinalenabi.”
“I hope you love the music video, it was a joy to make it. At the end there is a cameo from the legendary @who I adore,” concluded Sheeran, who also released a Persian version of “Azizam” on April 18.
“Azizam” is the first single from Sheeran’s upcoming album, Play.
