The new model, which works in a similar way to artificial intelligence applications such as ChatGPT, has been trained in a wide range of dolphins’ sounds such as clicks, bile, with the aim of predicting its potential meanings.

Dolphin voices are among the most advanced communication systems in the animal world, where each dolphin has a unique “audio signature” that resembles the name, and the sounds vary according to the context:

The researchers hope that the model will be used in the field via Google Pixel phones, enabling real conversations with dolphins and stimulating them to link human sounds with specific meanings or feelings.
