CPM Party 24th Congress to Kick Off in Madurai from 2 April, 2025. Political land slipped, a new leader is finding a new leader struggling with the crisis of existence
The only government of the Left Front, which ruled West Bengal for 34 years continuously, is now the government in Kerala. The Marxist Communist Party (CPI (M)) has been continuously moving towards Indian politics since Mamata Banerjee lost to Trinamool Congress in 2011 and Tripura in Tripura in 2018. In this background, the CPI (M) will be focused on strengthening the party, its support base and political influence in Madurai, Madurai, Tamil Nadu, in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.
Decreasing mass base
In this conference to be held from April 2 to 6, the draft of the political proposal will be discussed, reviewed and it will be approved. In this, the immediate need to increase the base of the CPI -M has been emphasized. It states that the results of the Lok Sabha show that the support and influence of the party has not increased. In an interview, CPI (M) Polit Bureau Coordinator Prakash Karat had said that the decrease in party base in West Bengal is a major reason for its decline in electoral strength.
The CPI (M) fielded 52 candidates in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, out of which it won four seats. The party won Madurai and Dindigul in Tamil Nadu, Alathur in Kerala and Sikar seats in Rajasthan. In 2019, only three MPs of the CPI (M) were elected to the lower house. In 2014, the number of CPI (M) seats in the Lok Sabha was nine. In the best performance in the year 2004, 43 members of the CPI -M reached Lok Sabha and the party’s vote percentage was 5.4.
India alliance
The CPI (M), which is facing a challenge with the Congress, a partner of the opposition coalition ‘India’ in Kerala and the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, will also discuss the nuances of the ruling party BJP at the center at the center. The draft political resolution states that the party will cooperate with the parties involved in ‘India’ on issues in Parliament and outside Parliament.
The proposal also states that the CPI (M) will cooperate with the regional parties who oppose the BJP, and where such regional parties lead the state governments, the party will support any such policy that people benefit.
The draft proposal also mentions an increase in “neo-fascist characteristics” under the BJP rule, and it is said that “the pressure to implement the reactionary Hindutva agenda and the opposition to the opposition and democracy shows the new-fascist features to suppress the opposition and democracy.”
A note aired by the party clarified that it does not consider the Narendra Modi-led government as “neo-fascist”, but it contains expressions of “neo-fascist characteristics”.
This conference to be held at Tamukkam Maidan in Madurai will also have an exhibition on the history of fascist, diversity and communist movement in the country.
On April 3, a special seminar will be organized on the state’s rights, which will be addressed by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and Karnataka Minister Krishna Bayre Gowda as well as Prakash Karat.
There will be changes in the party
For the members of the Central Committee, along with the age limit of 75 years, there is a possibility of change in the structure of the top unit of the Left party. In addition to discussing the party’s stance on various issues and creating the outline of the future, the outgoing central committee will recommend a panel of names for the election of new members.
Representatives can raise objections regarding any name in the proposed panel and can propose any name with the pre -approval of the member.
The Central Committee will also elect a Polit Bureau including the General Secretary among its members. The number of members in the Polit Bureau is also decided by the Central Committee.
Last year, after the death of Sitaram Yechury, the post of general secretary was vacant, after which Karat took charge as an interim coordinator.
Currently, the CPI -M Polit Bureau has 16 members and the Central Committee has 83 members. According to the CPI (M) Constitution, the party Congress is usually held once every three years.
