Trump plans collective dismissals in the departments of artificial intelligence and chips

The National Institute for Standards and Technology, a US Department of Trade, is preparing to separate up to 500 employees being tested as part of the comprehensive discount from President Donald Trump in the federal government. Some of the employees at the agency received oral notices about the termination of their services Wednesday, according to people who are familiar with the case that spoke on condition that their identity is not disclosed to discuss private information. Some of them said that the final decision regarding the extent of the separation operations has not yet been made. The institute was responsible for the implementation of major initiatives during the administration of former president Joe Biden, including the financing of semiconductor manufacturing and set standards for the use and development of artificial intelligence. These cuts come at a time when the new Minister of Trade, Howard Lottenic, is responsible for the ministry. During his appointment last month, Lootnick said he intended to review the semiconductor programs launched by the Biden Administration, in addition to artificial intelligence initiatives within the ministry. Trump’s approach to artificial intelligence coincides with a shift in the policy of artificial intelligence under Trump’s management, which moved away from the risk -based approach used by the Biden Administration, and rather focusing on promoting innovation. Employees affected may include a large percentage of offices responsible for semiconductor investments during the Biden era, including almost three fifths responsible for the implementation of manufacturing incentive projects worth $ 39 billion, as well as two -thirds of employees responsible for research and development with a $ 11 billion. The employees of the American AI Institute, who are responsible for testing and evaluating advanced artificial intelligence systems and setting standards, may also face functional discounts. The Biden Administration erected the institute in 2023 as part of a comprehensive executive order on artificial intelligence, which Trump canceled in office on his first day. Reducing the size of the federal government has strengthened its efforts to reduce the size of the federal government by separating employees who are tested in various federal agencies. These employees usually include workers in the first or two years of their service, including those recently promoted. Collective demobilization raised widespread fear of the migration and gaps in the research system within the government. A series of lawsuits were filed in response to the Trump administration, accusing them of overcoming executive powers. The National Institute for Standards and Technology did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
