Germany stops military export to Israel in a major change of attitude after Netanyahu planned to occupy Gaza
Germany will interrupt military equipment exports to Israel, Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on Friday, referring that his weapons could be used in the Gaza Strip, while Israel plans to take control of the Gaza city. Germany’s decision to stop military exports to Israel comes as a drastic change of its earlier stance to support the country, currently at war with Hamas. “The even harder military action by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip, which was approved by the Israeli security cabinet last night, is making it increasingly difficult, from the German government’s perspective, to see how these goals should be achieved,” the German Chancellor said in a press release. “Under these circumstances, the German government will not authorize any export of military equipment that can be used in the Gaza Strip until further notice,” he added.
