Who is Rinku Singh Rahi? SDM that performed sit-ups before transferring UP advocates | Today news

Two days after a video appeared on social media, in which an IAS officer did sit-ups in front of advocates in Puwaiyan Tehsil of the Shahjahanpur district in Uttar Pradesh, the state government on Thursday transferred the officer to the Revenue Council in Lucknow. The Act carried out by the IAS officer of 2022, Rinku Singh Rahi, was seen as a violation of the All India Services Behavior Rules, as well as “an unreported officer -an inappropriate act that was not in accordance with the post”, a report by Hindustan Times said. Shahjahanpur district Dharmendra Pratap Singh told Pti that Rahi, who was only posted to Puwaiyan Tehsil, was now relieved of the post. Who is Rinku Singh Rahi? Rinku Singh Rahi took the lead on July 28 as subdivision Magistrate (SDM) of Powayan Tehsil in Shahjahanpur. The next day, during an inspection of the Tehsil site, Rahi noted that garbage was sprinkled over the compound, dirty toilets and a clerk of an advocate in the open. Anger on this, the SDM put the clerk on the spot as punishment, a move that upset lawyers. After the incident, advocates staged a protest march near the Tehsil office against Rahi’s actions. Later, during an interaction, the advocates expressed their grievances about the terrible state of toilets and the lack of proper sanitation facilities. As they acknowledged their concerns, the SDM publicly acknowledged the lack of cleanliness at Puwaiyan Tehsil site and performed five sit-ups that keep his ears in front of the advocates. According to the HT report, Rahi confirmed his transfer and said: “Sanitation maintenance is not directly the SDM’s responsibility. It was just my first day after I joined. I wanted to send a message to society that when something goes wrong, an officer should show. He told Pti that the idea was to encourage better public behavior. “When I saw people urinating near the toilets, I asked them to use the facilities. When they refused, I let them sit. The same way I saw some school children wandering around the premises, and their parents were made to do sit-ups as a deterrent,” Rahi said.
