Delhi HC's great relief to TMC -LP Mahua Moitra in defamation case against Nishikant Dubey | Today news

Trinamol Congress Mahua Moitra received relief from the Delhi Supreme Court after BJP leader Nishikant Dubey and lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai agreed to take their posts on social media accusing her of misconduct. Moitra submitted a defamation case with the argument that the allegations by Dubey’s Facebook post and Dehadrai’s tweet – which contain a screenshot of the same – shared – it was unfounded and damage to her reputation. During a hearing on Friday, both Dubey and Dehadrai informed the court that they would remove the social media posts in question, providing a partial relief to Moitra in her defamation case. According to a report by Bar and Bench, senior lawyer Abhimanyu Bhandari, who represented Nishikant Dubey, argued before the Delhi High Court that the social media post was based on a lure order related to an investigation from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to Mahua Moitra’s alleged foreign bank accounts. In a post about X, TMC MP wrote: ‘Supreme Court called Hon’ble Gentleman’ Highly Irresponsible ‘,’ ignorant ‘,’ absurd ‘,’ biased ‘,’ scandalous’ and ‘badly meant’. Not me. ‘ The defamation case, submitted by Mahua Moitra in 2023, focuses on what she described as false and defamatory allegations that accused her of accepting bribes in exchange for questions in parliament. Dubey claimed that Moitra took bribes from the businessman and CEO of Hiranandani Group, Darshan Hiranandani, to raise specific questions in the Lok Sabha. He based these claims on a letter he received from lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai, who allegedly gave “irrefutable” evidence supporting the accusations of bribery. The allegations were unfounded and damage to her reputation. However, Moitra denied any misconduct and argued that the claims were politically driven and intended to damage her reputation, according to the report.
