58 people died due to lightning and hailstorm in many parts of the state
Bihar had a bad weather situation on Thursday, which died 58 people on a single day across the state. In the dead, 23 people were killed by lightning, while 35 others died in storm -related accidents, including heavy rain and deaths due to fall trees and walls during strong wind. According to the information, the most affected district was Nalanda, where 22 people lost their lives due to strong storm. The storm killed one person each in Bhojpur (5 deaths), Gaya (3 deaths) and Gopalganj, Jehanabad, Patna, Arwal and Muzaffarpur. Lightning alone killed 23 people, in which 4 people died in Siwan. 3 People died in Jamui, while 2-2 people died in Saharsa, Araria and Saran. One death was reported in Patna, Jehanabad, Bhojpur, Darbhanga, Arwal, Gopalganj, Muzaffarpur, Munger, Katihar and Bhagalpur. A day earlier, 25 people died due to lightning in eight districts Bihar. Most of the dead were farmers and daily wage workers who were working on agricultural work in the midst of changing weather. Earlier, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar mourned the deaths and announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 4-4 Lakh to the families of the deceased. The statement said he also called on the people of the state to follow the advice issued by the Department of Disaster Management. According to the latest Bihar Economic Survey (2024-25) reports presented at the state meeting during the budget session in February this year, there will be 275 deaths associated with electricity or thunderstorms in the state in 2023.
