The recipients of this year also contain Grammy-awarded soul, gospel, R&B and pop icon Gladys Knightwho performed in Broadway’s Gershwin Theater in the summer of 1984 Gladys Knight & The Pips & Kashif;; actor and filmmaker George Clooney; Contemporary Christian and pop singer songwriter Amy Grant; and Cuban -born American composer, conductor and educator Tania León.

Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Chairman, David M. Rubenstein, said in an earlier statement: “Whether humanity was saved, mastered a Heist, or mastered a ship in dangerous seas, actor George Clooney’s unique brand of serious charisma and his full person. This year’s honors were selected based on the recommendation of the Kennedy Center’s Special Honors Advisory Committee, chaired by David Bohnett and contains recipients and artists in the past in the past.
