190 crore has been approved for the development of seven new airports in Bihar
Patna, April 5 (IANS). The Union Ministry of Civil Aviation has accepted the request of the state government for the development of various new airports under the bihar flight scheme. The Ministry’s Project Emotion Committee (PEC) recommended the release of Rs 25-25 crore in the first phase of the establishment or the development of six small airports in the state. In addition, it has also been approved to release Rs 40 crore for the development of Purnia Airport. In this way, a total approval of Rs 190 crore was received for the establishment or development of seven new airports under the flight scheme in the state. Janata Dal United (JDU) executive chairman, Sanjay Kumar Jha, said that the six cities of Bihar at the recent PEC meeting chaired by the Secretary of the Union Ministry of Civil Airport, approved to release Rs 25-25 Crore for the development of the airport, Madhubani, Munger, Muzaffarpur and Valmiki Night. He said chief minister Nitish Kumar in January February this year during his ‘Pragati Yatra’ instructed state government officials to take the necessary steps for the introduction of small airports in these cities. MP JHA wrote on social media platform X, “the chief minister earlier in a meeting with senior state government officials and Airport Airport officials said that the airport should be provided within a maximum of 200 kilometers from any part of the state, so that the ordinary people can reach the country and other parts of the country.” At the PEC meeting, the AAI official informed that the developmental work of the Purnia, Bihar was started under the UDERSDAY scheme, and the construction of the terminal building was awarded on February 20, 2025. It is recommended to release Rs 40 crore for Purnia Airport. The state government also requested the development of the Bhagalpur airport under the ‘Udaan’ scheme. There was also a detailed discussion on this. However, it was decided that it would be considered in the next meeting of the PEC after the feasibility study report of the proposed site for the Bhagalpur airport.
