Concord theatricals celebrate the 50th anniversary of A choir line and the 80th anniversary of his late composer Marvin Hamlischbirth with a competition. One singular sensation: A choir line Licensing competition gives free licenses of the teen edition of the musical to ten schools in communities with low income.

As previously reported, One singular sensation: A choir line Licensing competition was open to all US high schools, titled 1 and other resources schools, especially encouraged to enter. Schools entering were asked to complete a written application containing an essay: “What makes your student simple sensations?” Video entries can also be included.

The winning schools follow:

  • Barack Obama School for Social Justice in Yonkers, New York
  • Bound Brook High School in Bound Brook, New Jersey
  • Edward H. White Leadership Academy in Jacksonville, Florida
  • Lincoln Park High School in Lincoln Park, Michigan
  • McCollum High School in San Antonio, Texas
  • Oscar Smith High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia
  • Ramona High School in Riverside, California
  • Rome High School in Rome, Georgia
  • Sam Rayburn High School in Pasadena, Texas
  • Stanhope Elmore High School in Millbrook, Alabama

“When I was done reading the submissions, I felt a sense of joy that these schools were pursuing theater – to make their students shine moments and see – with the smallest budgets, but so much energy and enthusiasm,” Concord Theatrical President Bill Gaden said in a statement. “The dedication and ingenuity of the students, parents, teachers and volunteers are truly inspiring. I am so glad that Concord can help these dedicated theater makers bring the arts to their communities.”

Winners were selected based on a variety of factors, including financial needs and answering creativity, with selected schools receiving a three-performance licensing package and all rental material for free. Applications were accepted until February 12, with winning achievements to be scheduled between June 2024 and December 2025.

A choir line Transport audiences to a high-and-audition for a Broadway ensemble, with dancers on the line and ask to explain everything they are to the director of the show. The show was originally devised, directed and choreographed by Michael Bennettwhich developed the idea via a series of discussion groups with real dancers, many of which have appeared in the original production of the musical. The work contains a book by James Kirkwood and Nicholas dantemusic by Hamlisch, and lyrics by Edward Kleban. The song list contains favorites such as ‘at the ballet’, ‘nothing’, ‘what I did for love’ and ‘one.’

Bob Avian co-choreographed the original production, which came to the forefront The public theater In 1975 before transferring to Broadway the same year and became one of the long runners of the main stem. Along with the winning musical during the 1976 Tony Awards, the musical won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Concord’s against Edition of the Musical adapts the full-length musical for teenage artists, removing references to smoking and suicide, explicit sexual content and swear words, and contains character changes to bring about flexibility. Concord is also the licensing house for the Broadway version of A choir line.
