RIVERS STATE PROTEST: TAKE-IT-BACK Movement claims Nigerian police protection on April 7

In a formal notice letter sent to the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, TIB set out key issues that asked the demonstration, including recalling the CyberSecurity Act, rising uncertainty in the state and the aggravating economic hardship. The Take-It-Back (TIB) movement has announced plans to hold a peaceful protest in the Rivers State on April 7 to the State Police Command, which will focus on rejecting ‘many policies’ by the government. In a formal notice letter sent to the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, TIB set out key issues that asked the demonstration, including recalling the CyberSecurity Act, rising uncertainty in the state and the aggravating economic hardship. In the letter signed by the state coordinator of TIB, Amaniye King Amaniye, General Secretary, Damites Honorary Kosima and publicity secretary Andy Akpotive, the organizers have their dedication to maintaining order and ensuring that the protest remains legal. The TIB also requested safety support to protect participants and maintain peace during the event. They cited their constitutional right to freedom of expression and meeting, as captured in Article 40 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “We are committed to ensuring that this protest remains peaceful, orderly and in accordance with the laws of Nigeria.” We are also looking for the cooperation of the police to provide security, just as was done during our previous protests against bad management, “the statement says. The movement further said it is open to discussions with law enforcement authorities to ensure a safe demonstration. For urgent government interference, the TIB has urged all supporters and residents involved to join the peaceful march.
