Andre Agassi is remembering his greatest career serves. Not the tennis kind.
On Wednesday, April 16, the 54-year-old tennis legend shared a clip to Instagram where he reminisced on his “three favorite looks” of his illustrious and highly fashionable career — including a few stand-out outfits and staples from the ’90s that he still thinks fondly of.
The first look, or No. 3 on Agassi’s personal countdown, was his outfit from the 1995 Australian Open. On Jan. 23 of that year, Agassi defeated opponent Pete Sampras in style, when he wore a red bandana, hoops in his ears and some oversize tennis gear.
He was ahead of his time, too, as the video featured a side-by-side of him and Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow, who didn’t appear on screens until 2003’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.
“It was kind of referred to as the pirate look,” Agassi joked in his video. “Baggy shorts, baggy shirt, bandana, hoop earring, goatee. It was like Pirates of the Caribbean kind of stuff.”

As for what he considers his second-favorite career look, Agassi gave that distinction in his Instagram clip to — generally — denim shorts. “Then I would have to shift to the original jean shorts,” Agassi said. “Tennis hadn’t quite seen somebody wear anything but white with their shirts tucked in.”
Agassi notably wore a pair of tiny acid wash jorts during the 1988 U.S. Open, which, according to GQwere made by Nike.
For his final pick, however, Agassi turned his attention to his “hot lava spandex under the denim shorts” combo from the early ’90s, when he paired the choice of shorts with a matching pink-print top, statement-pink headband and a pair of Nike Air Tech Challenge 2s.
He wore the ensemble during the 1990 French Open in Paris, with the popular shoe colorway having made its return in 2024.
“At the time, the president of the French Federation was thinking about bringing in a dress code. You know, I did what any normal person would do and I called him a bozo in the press conference. That was a little bit regrettable, but it was an honest reaction to someone telling me what I had to wear.”
According to the Washington PostAgassi indeed called French Tennis Federation President Philippe Chatrier a “bozo” at the time, adding, “I want the freedom to be what I want to be.”
Back in March, Agassi and fellow tennis star Steffi Graf caught up with PEOPLE about their experience playing pickleball these days. While it isn’t entirely clear if the jorts will make a return on the court, the longtime couple — who wed in 2001 and share two children Jaden, 23, and Jaz, 21 — did share that they try not to compete against each other and “prefer to be on the same side of the court.”
“We really want to grow the game,” Agassi, who with Graf won the Pickleball Slam on ESPN in February, said. “When we are not traveling, we practice pickleball a great deal. Since we both play, it’s fun to do together.”
“We like that pickleball is a community-driven sport,” he added. “People who play pickleball improve their game quickly. While all types of sports lovers are playing, the age keeps getting younger.”
