Bihar Transport Department has erected new Centers for Pollution Check (PUC) in 46 blocks across the state under its incentive scheme to ensure such facilities in each block. Officials said that 132 blocks do not have the first PUC centers and that a total grant of Rs 1.05 crore has so far been distributed for the establishment of new facilities. Bhabhua has the highest number of five new centers, followed by four centers in Banka and Madhubani. Three centers were opened in Darbhanga, Gaya, Jehanabad and Katihar, while two centers in Madhepura, Nalanda, Nawada, Rohtas, Saharsa, Sheikhpura and Siwan were opened. One center was each erected in Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Munger, Chhapra and Arwal. Currently, 1.553 pollution controls (PUC) are used across the state, of which 264 centers are at the forefront of Patna, followed by Muzaffarpur (81), Gaya (76), Vaishali (74), Chapra (66) and Samastipur (62). These centers do most vehicle pollution tests. In terms of this scheme, the government offers 50 percent subsidy to the purchase of Pollution Check Equipment – Maximum Rs 3 Lakh – which creates new jobs at block level. Share this story -tags
