"Held at Gunpoint": Wine’s Wife "Assaulted" | Firstpost Africa
Tensions in Uganda continue to rise following President Yoweri Museveni’s controversial re-election, as opposition leader Bobi Wine has again accused the military of raiding his home and assaulting his family. While Wine remains in hiding, his wife, Barbara Kyagulanyi, was hospitalised following the alleged attack. Speaking from her hospital bed, she detailed being strangled and held at gunpoint by soldiers, blaming the raid on Army Chief General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the President’s son. General Kainerugaba has denied harming Barbara but confirmed a manhunt for Wine, following previous threats made on social media. With the Wine’s party, the National Unity Platform, reported mass arrests and abductions of supporters, international bodies, including the EU and UN, have expressed deep concern over the escalating violence and human rights violations in the country.
