President Trump on Wednesday threatened to boycott the 2020 presidential election debates in retaliation for the Democratic National Committee not picking Fox News to host one of its primary showdowns.
“Democrats just blocked @FoxNews from holding a debate,” the president tweeted. “Good, then I think I’ll do the same thing with the Fake News Networks and the Radical Left Democrats in the General Election debates!”
DNC Chairman Tom Perez rejected Fox News’ request to televise one of the 12 debates scheduled to begin in June, pointing to a New Yorker magazine article that reported on the connection between the network and the Trump administration.
A number of news organizations have asked the DNC to allow them to cover one of the primary debates. Only NBC and CNN have been awarded rights so far to the first two.
