This year’s wildflower super bloom 🌺 in Southern California isn’t just stunning, it’s also providing a feast for swarms of painted lady butterflies 🦋 making their way north from Mexico. The orange and black butterflies, which are often mistaken for monarchs, tend to migrate in waves and thrive when there’s a super bloom. “There’s no missing them when they go like bats out of hell and they’re going in a straight line from southeast to northwest,” said one professor who has been studying butterflies in California since 1972.
