These newly separated twin sisters returned home to Bhutan this week months after months of recovery and observation. Nima and Dawa Pelden, who were born connected at the stomach, flew to Australia and for a six-hour procedure in October that required 25 surgeons, nurses and anesthetists. Speaking after the successful operation, the head of pediatric surgery at Melbourne Royal Children’s Hospital said he felt relief and joy. “There is nothing better in any operation than to be able to go to the parents and say, ‘we’ve been able to look after your child.’” (📸: Upasana Dahal/AFP/Getty Images)
