  1. Hopkins is more celebrated for his more showy performance as cannibal psychiatrist Dr. Hannibal Lecter, but it’s Foster as the rookie FBI agent who drives the almost unbearably intense thriller. Her riveting jail-cell jousts with Lecter are a master’s class in acting that she aces, though her most awe-inspiring work comes in the climax, in which Clarice is trapped in serial killer Buffalo Bill’s basement. Eyes wide, panting near panic, Foster perfectly captures the audience’s own fear of being alone in the dark with a monster.

  2. 1991s best actress category was weirdly intermingled. Jodie Foster was the first choice to play thelma dickinson in thelma n louise moreover callie khouri wrote the character keeping foster in mind but Ridley Scott found her a bit younger for the part while on the other hand Laura Dern was demme's third choice to play Clarice (foster wasn't even the first and second choice ) and when the first two rejected he found her suitable but the studio didn't wanted her due to her anonymity at the time
