“Every time somebody’s driving somebody, I lose,” director Spike Lee said when asked about the controversy-plagued “Green Book” taking home the best picture prize at Sunday’s #Oscars. Lee’s comment referenced “Driving Miss Daisy,” which won best picture the year Lee earned his first Oscar nomination with “Do the Right Thing.” Lee took home an Oscar on Sunday for best adapted screenplay for “BlacKkKlansman,” which tells the story of a black detective who infiltrates the KKK, but was beat out for the night’s highest honor by “Green Book,” which has been criticized for advancing the “white savior” narrative.
