Court reinstates Aaron Hernandez’s murder charge

The highest court in Massachusetts reinstated murder charges on Wednesday against ex-New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez.

Hernandez’s conviction was tossed after he committed suicide in April 2017 while in prison — thanks to a state law that erases murder raps in the event of an inmate’s death.

The former athlete was found guilty in 2015 of killing semi-professional football player Odin Lloyd.

Prosecutors argued that the legal principle was unfair to victims and outdated.

In its ruling, the Supreme Judicial Court said Hernandez’s conviction will stand but the court record will note the conviction was neither affirmed nor reversed because the defendant died while the appeal was pending.

Hernandez hanged himself in his cell days after being acquitted in a double-murder case from 2012.
