Blake Swihart has returned to the Red Sox on Monday following the tragic death of his brother, Romell Jordan, last week.

Swihart made the decision to play last Thursday in honor of his brother, who passed only a day prior.

He hit an RBI single in the game, hugging manager Alex Cora afterwards. Swihart then took the weekend to return to New Mexico to be with his family.

Upon his return, he thanked the organization and the fans for their support, especially the support he received when playing on Thursday.

“It has been an emotional time,” Swihart said, per Chris Cotillo of MassLive. “Doing a lot better now. Family is doing good. Just the support… honestly, everything has been awesome. The ceremony was good. Just seeing all the flowers that were sent from everybody and all the messages I’ve received. Not only by the team, but all around baseball. It’s been great.”

He showed a special appreciation towards his teammates being there during his time of need.

“It just proves how close we are as a team,” Swihart said. “We’re really brothers. There are times during the year where we’re with these guys more than we are with our family. They’re family in their own right.”
