A devastating cyclone swept through Southern Africa last week, triggering a “humanitarian disaster of large proportions,” according to Mozambique President Filipe Nyusi. The storm, which is one of the deadliest to strike anywhere in the southern hemisphere, killed hundreds of people and left widespread flooding in its wake. The European Union announced it would send almost $4 million in emergency aid to Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe, and the United Arab Emirates said it would send nearly $5 million in aid.
