Y’all, we’ve tried. We’ve made an effort to avoid bubble tea (or at least clamp down on our addiction), but there’s no escaping. Not when new-to-Singapore brands insist on popping up every couple months and tempting us with their sugary treats.
Next in line is Jenjudan, a popular Taiwanese name that originated from Taipei’s Shilin Night Market (which is sort of coming to our shores in April). Established in 2010, with 29 outlets around the world, the bubble tea brand will open at CityLink Mall on Mar 23, cooking up brown sugar pearls that are caramelized and slow cooked in house for some solid “pearlfection.†Similar to Tiger Sugar, which diligently makes its tapioca bobs fresh every few hours, the pearls here are prepared every two hours.
Clearly, the signature to try is its Bubble Brown Sugar Milk ($5.20-$6.50), but you can also go for popular favorites like Bubble Milk with Oreo (fresh milk, chocolate wafers, sweet creme, and brown sugar pearls) or Thai Style Milk Tea.
There’s a macchiato series with the likes of Earl Grey and jasmine green tea ($4.50), as well as a range of tea lattes, fresh fruit teas, and brown sugar drinks. Plus, new beverages include matcha green tea with red beans ($5.50-$6.90) and honey chrysanthemum tea with lemon ($3.90). All of that can be topped with items ($0.70-$0.90) like tapioca pearls, nata de coco, pudding, grass jelly, and red beans. Also look out for limited edition seasonal drinks like the taro series.
But now that every bubble tea addict has sampled Tiger Sugar, they’ll probably be jumping ship to Jenjudan. So as with every hyped-up opening, give it two or three months before the queues quiet down and you won’t have to wait in a two-hour line for a drink.
Jenjudan opens on Mar 23 at #B1-13, CityLink Mall, 1 Raffles Link.
MRT: Esplanade/City Hall
