Artist Kim Soon-cheol has been developing her unique artistry of combining painting and sewing, and she held her first solo exhibition in 2015 under the title of “About Wish.” Gold thread responds to light sensitively, like natural light and lighting, while cotton thread absorbs light and gives off warm, cozy impressions. Red thread expresses passion, extremes or vitality from the artist’s heart, as these are what the color red signifies. The artist chose to sew on her canvas with different colors and types of thread to make her presence known.
Kim fills the backdrops of her works with nature. Then she communicates with herself, gets rid of all the complicated feelings and even fills that space with positive thoughts while sewing on her canvas. Her pieces are visually satisfying and possess a tactile quality as well, and her unwavering, strong desires become thread that fills and adorn her pieces.

Opera ? The Tale of Chun Hyang
Korea’s premier opera singers gathered together to reenact the classic love story “Tale of Chun Hyang.” “The Tale of Chun Hyang” is Korea’s first original opera written by Hyun Jae-myung, and the Kim Sun International Opera Company gives the opera their own spin for the 1st Korea Original Opera Festival, which is bound to become a springboard for Korean operas to advance to the world. For this performance, all the archaic and sino-Korean words in the Pansori became simplified and modernized, and white fabric was used to maximize the sadness of the protagonists’ separation.
