Vandals Cause Thousands Of Pounds Worth Of Damage To Portsmouth Nursery

A nursery in Portsmouth has been left in poor shape after vandals broke in on Monday night and caused thousands of pounds of damage, including chucking around a whole load of paint.

The walls, the ceiling, and even an expensive TV were all covered with the paint. They also set off the building’s fire extinguishers.

Police are now seeking any information about the sad events at Arundel Court Primary and Nursery in Portsmouth, Hampshire.

The nursery has been forced to close down until the mess and damage can be sorted out. Looking at the pictures, that could take a little while.

On top of the paint and fire extinguisher damage, the carpets have had to be ripped up and chucked out alongside a load of the toys that were in the building.

At the time of writing – Wednesday 26 February – it remains closed.

The nursery shared the bad news on Facebook, writing: “SHOCKING SAD NEWS!!!!

“Sadly last night our nursery was broken into and horrifically vandalised causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.

“Due to this mindless act, Nursery will be closed tomorrow but hopefully we will put some sort of provision in place for Thursday.

“If anyone has any information on the break in please contact the school.”

Karen Stocks, who is the headteacher at both the nursery and the adjoining Arundel Court Primary School, added: “We’ve had an overwhelming response, overwhelming support from the community really.

“I have been in tears most of the day because of the generosity.

“We’ve got a couple of people coming down later today – it’s just fantastic.

“It’s great Dunkirk spirit.”

Parents who have children that attend the nursery have also expressed their shock, as well as their hopes the problem can be sorted out as soon as possible, for both the nursery and the children who spend their days there.

One person said: “Absolutely shocking, best school I know, obviously kids hope they get caught, for this so wrong.”

Another asked: “How could anyone do such a horrible thing to such a lovely school?”

A third offered: “That is awful. If you need any help cleaning up we can come down and help.”

A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said: “Entry was gained overnight, and damage was caused to various items within the site.”

With any luck, the coppers can find who did this and get the nursery back up and running again.
