Liverpool actress Kim Cattrall says it is a “dream come true” to become honorary fellow of Liverpool John Moores University (VIDEO)

SEX And The City star Kim Cattrall said it was a “dream come true” to become an honorary fellow of a Liverpool university.

The Golden Globe-winning actress donned a blue cap and gown to receive her fellowship from Liverpool John Moores University yesterday.

Before the presentation Kim, 53, was joined by relatives including her mum Shane Cattrall and her Liverpool aunts as she posed for photographs on the steps of the city’s Anglican cathedral.

The actress, who was born in Liverpool before her parents moved to Canada when she was three months old, got huge cheers as the Sex And The City theme tune boomed out of the organ before she spoke from a lectern.

Wearing a cap the university vice chancellor Professor Michael Brown had placed on her head, she made a speech to hundreds of graduates and their families.

Kim, who played feisty Samantha Jones in the hit TV show, said: “Whoever said you cannot go home again didn’t come from Liverpool.

“I feel very connected to this city. From the very beginning, coming from Liverpool meant that I was special.”

She said: “This is as much about family as it is about one individual.

“My family is here with me today. My mum, my aunties, my cousins, my friends. They have given me such confidence to make me believe that I could achieve anything I wanted to if I worked hard enough and I stayed true to myself.”

Mossley Hill-born Kim was honoured for her outstanding contribution to performing arts.

Others to receive honorary fellowships from the university yesterday included Norah Button, principal of the Liverpool Theatre School, Nicholas Wainwright, who is the joint MD of Boodles, and David Molyneux to recognise his outstanding contributions in the field of tropical medicine.
