Wild Nothing at the Kazimier – Monday March 18, 7.30pm-11pm

BELLA Union is a record label you can trust – and in Wild Nothing, they’ve a very special offering.

Essentially a one-man project, Jack Tatum deals in dreamy lush textures which coat your ears in warm blankets of aural fuzz.

On the back of their second album, Nocturne, their Kazimier gig is long anticipated and they appropriately play alongside By The Sea – another band specialising in dreamlike melodies which drip into your subconscious.

The GIT Award 2013 shortlist announcement – Monday March 18

LIVERPOOL’S premier music prize, The GIT Award 2013 has revealed the 2013 shortlist:

The shortlist was decided by a 12-strong judging panel comprising respected music industry figures including BBC 6 Music presenter and son of John Peel, Tom Ravenscroft, the editor of rock and pop music bible Q Magazine, Liverpool-born Andrew Harrison, Matt Wilkinson, NME’s new music editor, leading UK music website, The Quietus’ editor, John Doran plus the cornerstones of Liverpool’s music and arts scene.

Andrew Harrison, editor of Q, said: “This is a genuinely impressive and varied shortlist proves that Merseyside continues to generate fantastic musical talent like nowhere else on earth.”

The industry showcase evening at Leaf on April 19 and will include performances from the shortlisted artists. The overall winner will receive a cash prize of £1000 and a special Inspiration Award, recognising services to Liverpool’s music industry (won last year by the team behind city venue The Kazimier), will also be presented.

In addition a ‘People’s Choice’ online poll consisting of the 12 nominees will allow the public the opportunity to have their say on Liverpool’s finest music of 2012-2013. For news of this, pick up Bido Lito! on Thursday when the new edition hits the streets on Thursday.

Kevin Sampson’s The Killing Pool book launch at Liverpool Bridewell – Wednesday March 20, 7pm

CELEBRATED Liverpool author Kevin Sampson returns with crime thriller, The Killing Pool.

Meet his new creation DCI Billy McCartney and the drug-fuelled streets he’s hoping to clean up. Sampson is noted for his acclaimed works, Away Days and Powder, join him and an assortment of Liverpool’s musicians at the Bridewell for the launch of another contemporary classic in waiting.

The Bluecoat’s 5th anniversary – The Bluecoat, until May 2

ONE of the cornerstones of Liverpool’s arts scene, The Bluecoat celebrates five years since reopening.

Five years on the team celebrate with an exciting programme of exhibitions, performances, talks, debates, workshops and other events. A time for reflection, this is also an opportunity for you to tell us how you would like us to develop in the future.

Upitup Records 10th Birthday weekender – various venues across Liverpool – Thursday March 21 – Saturday March 23

LIVERPOOL’s Upitup Records celebrates 10 years of championing independent music with three-day marathon across Merseyside.

Since March 2003 Upitup Records has released more than 50 free albums and organized over 40 events across Liverpool, Rome and Stuttgart specialising in a distinct selection of eclectic electronic music.

Marking their 10th anniversary, Upitup are organizing a three-night weekender on March 21-23, showcasing their varied taste in music with artists from their own label roster and very special guests performing across Merseyside.
