Liverpool gymnast Beth Tweddle ready for Dancing On Ice semi-final (VIDEO)

OLYMPIC superstar Beth Tweddle today told the ECHO how she will go into this weekend’s Dancing On Ice semi-final “with all guns blazing”.

The gymnast, who is joint favourite to win, spilled the beans on her rivals, routine and sickness in rehearsals as just four skaters remain.

She also revealed she will work with her ice partner Daniel Whiston – who previously partnered Jennifer Ellison and Kerry Katona – after the contest.

She said: “I will definitely keep up the skating. It is exciting because we’ll be working together after Dancing On Ice but I can’t say any more yet.

“We get on really well and it is just a case of having fun on the ice. He knows when to be serious, but that is not often – we laugh all the time. Because of my gymnastic background, people assumed I could skate but I was not a skater.”

Beth, who now lives in Liverpool, also admitted her gymnastic skills did not give her a head start with her heart-stopping flying stunt.

The 27-year-old, along with the rest of the celebrity skaters, will be lifted into the air with wires and harness during Sunday’s show.

She said: “People automatically assumed I’d be good at it but being a gymnast doesn’t really help.

“When I do somersaults I am so used to being in control but this is being in a harness with someone controlling you.

“I did think it was pathetic that I’m a gymnast and I get motion sickness. But three out of the four of us don’t like it. Matt [Lapinskas] is the only one who isn’t sick.

“I don’t know if it’s because as athletics we’re used to being in control of our bodies. I had to take [anti- nausea] tablets before my flying routine.”

Liverpool-trained Beth will compete against ex- EastEnders actor Matt, rugby star Gareth Thomas and boxer Luke Campbell.

The ECHO joined her and pro skater Daniel as they rehearsed at Silver Blades Ice Rink, in Altrincham, yesterday and showed off her own unique move on the ice – the Tweddle tip.

Daniel said: “We are looking forward to introducing the nation to ‘Sexy Suzy’ this week and we also have a new exciting lift.”

Beth added: “My biggest fear was being voted out in week one, so hopefully getting this far shows people enjoy our performances.

“We all have our own strengths. Matt is a natural performer and loves to be centre of attention, Gareth has the strength and the competitive side and Luke is the same.

“I am friends with all three of them. It is bizarre because you don’t think how much of a good friend you’ll become with everyone.”

Beth on her competitors

EX-EASTENDER Matt Lapinskas: “He’s the hyperactive one. He’s always on the go and he always has energy. I don’t think he has a stop button. I think people expected myself, Gareth or Luke to be competitive because of our sport background, but he’s the most competitive.”

Rugby legend Gareth Thomas, right: “Gaz is brilliant. We have a laugh with Gareth. He is always the one who is stood up clapping and cheering.”

Olympic gold medallist Luke Campbell: “I knew Luke before I started the show, so it was nice already knowing someone and having someone in a similar situation.”
