Radio favourite Simon Ross has bid a fond farewell to his breakfast show listeners.
The popular host, known to listeners as Rossie, has given up the early morning show after six years at the helm, being replaced by Leanne Campbell-Power and Dave Kelly.
He told the ECHO: “It’s been emotional. It felt very sad for Simmo (presenter Claire Simonsen) and I to do our last breakfast show.
“Waking up Liverpool has been a real honour and I wouldn’t have swapped those years for anything. I’ve loved every minute – except for having to get up at 4am every day. I won’t miss that.”
Rossie isn’t going far – he’s moving to the 10am – 2pm slot on the station.
He said: “I am very much looking forward to a lie-in. I’m going to be great bringing some of my favourite things to the new slot.
“We’ll still be doing the Top 10 at 10, but there’ll be more topical entertainment and The Village Idiot will move to 12.30. That’s the quiz, and not me.
“I’m looking forward to being able to go out in the evenings again, and not dreading the alarm clock. I’m looking forward to hearing the show, though. Leanne and Dave will do a great job, so I know it’s in safe hands.”
Leanne is the station’s first female breakfast show main host.
She said: “The enthusiasm shown by Radio City listeners has been the driving force behind the show.
“I love hearing what Liverpool has to say – we are the funniest and most honest people you will find.”
Leanne, who started her radio career with Juice FM 10 years ago, added: “Our show will be fun, entertaining and sassy and most importantly reflect its audience – it’s bound to put a smile on your face.”
Dave said: “After sitting in the studio with Leanne for the past few weeks getting the show ready and giggling every day, I can’t wait to actually get it on the radio.”
Chris Rick, content controller at Radio City, said: “This is a very exciting time for the station.
“We’re now in our 40th year on air and introducing a fresh sound and a new breakfast show.”
He added: “Leanne and Dave have great chemistry – it’s going to be a compelling listen.”
